Now Showing at The Investors Center: Abstract Painter, Heather Neilson

The Investors Center is pleased to welcome the artwork of Heather Neilson to its office gallery at 70 East Main Street in Avon.

Heather Neilson is a Northwest Connecticut–based abstract painter and mixed media artist known for her spacious compositions, softened organic forms, and quietly atmospheric sense of balance. Her paintings evolve through layered color, subtle transitions, and nuanced gestural marks that reveal traces of earlier decisions, creating depth, continuity, and a calm yet dynamic presence. Drawing deeply from the natural world—botanical structures, landscapes, and ephemeral found elements—Neilson transforms these inspirations into abstractions that evoke emotion, memory, and a strong sense of place.

Her intuitive, process driven style incorporates mixed media, collage, and monotype impressions, resulting in tactile surfaces that invite viewers to explore both inner and outer landscapes. Through this work, Neilson seeks to foster connection—between people, the environment, and the quiet moments that shape lived experience.

With more than 30 years of artistic practice, Neilson studied at the Art Students League of New York and holds a B.A. in Communications from Rutgers University. She exhibits widely throughout New England and teaches painting and mixed media techniques at her studio in Whiting Mills in Winsted, CT.
